U.S. DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY SUNWALL

PMA submitted an entry in the national design competition, for a technologically advanced and visually exciting solar system for the 32,000 SF vertical, south-facing wall of the Department’s Forrestal Building in Washington D.C. The competition challenged entrants to create a major architectural and technological landmark in the Nation’s Capital that demonstrates the U.S. Department of Energy’s commitment to developing clean energy technologies to power the 21st century. PMA’s entry translated the Sunwall into a “solar curtain” using suspended cables and tensile structures to support a catenary-curving curtain of photovoltaic arrays. This design is dramatically similar to the first place entry.
